Precision Surface Finishing

The surface finishing requirements for both the magnetic read-write head and the media disk are extremely demanding. This is being driven by the more sensitive and more complex metallurgies being used in both the magnetic heads and media disks. In particular, the corrosion sensitivity of these materials during the surface finishing operation becomes more apparent, thus requiring greater process control and/or the addition of corrosion inhibitors into the various lapping lubricants, abrasive slurries and cleaning products.
